Insurance Agent Job Description

Reports To: Agency Owner

Job Purpose: The commercial insurance agent will prospect, solicit and sell new commercial lines accounts of the size and type desired by the agency. Assist in their ongoing service and renewal needs.

9. Hold and maintain Illinois Property and Casualty Producer’s License.

Job Duties:

Solicit new prospects via cold calls, association involvement, business or personal referrals, business or government directories, carrier lead programs, online networking or any other lead source available.

Qualify prospects in terms of size, credit history, financial stability, safety standards, willingness to buy, honesty and integrity.

With Marketing Specialist, gather underwriting and loss information, complete applications, market to carriers, negotiate favorable price and terms, prepare proposal and present to client.

Analyze underwriting information, identify coverage gaps and omissions and make appropriate risk management recommendations.

Determine and communicate pricing needs to company underwriters.

Coordinate loss control activities between carrier representatives and client, including inspections.

Bind coverage within the limits established by the carrier or agency.

Responsible for the collection of deposit premiums (prior to binding) and all subsequent premiums due. Responsible for collection of all client account receivables. Collect receivables within 60 days of billing.

Collect all audited additional premiums or return uncollectable audits to the carrier within the time frames required by the carrier(s).

Review leases, bid specs and job requirements as required, making appropriate coverage changes or recommendations to the client.

Perform periodic service calls on accounts. Continuously monitor client and provide advice and counsel on changes that should be made in coverage or in insurance program to reflect changes in operations.

Coordinate carrier’s claim services in support of client risk management program. Oversee and monitor serious or complex claims as necessary.

Timely completion of Producer Monitoring Reports, outlining key activity. Submit to Marketing Specialist monthly.

Maintain knowledge of company underwriting criteria, rating procedures, and marketing policy.

Adhere to all systems, procedures and insurance company regulations. Document client rejection of recommended coverages and requests. Complete coverage checklist on all new accounts.  Be alert of potential E&O situations and take steps to eliminate them.

Attend and participate in producer and carrier meetings.
